Help me answer this question Why is the answer Z and not Argon?

Because someone was being cheeky and wanted you to say Z. That's still ""_(18)^(38) "Ar", the argon-38 isotope (0.063% abundant), with 18 protons (clearly nothing but argon), and 20 neutrons to give a mass number of 38.

In reality, that IS ""_(18)^(38) "Ar".
