The Fahrenheit temperature is given by:

Now we assume that they are numerically equal to find the temperature where that is true... Let #t = ""^@ "F" = ""^@ "C"#. Then:

#t = 9/5t + 32#

#(1 - 9/5)t = 32#

#t = 32/(1 - 9/5)#

#= 32/(-4/5)#

#= -40#

And thus, #color(blue)ul(-40^@ "C" = -40^@ "F")#.
