Well, to evaluate this, there is no easier way than to put it into your calculator. These numbers are decimals, which are difficult to do in your head.


#ln# is the natural logarithm, and has base #e = 2.718281828cdots#. This function is defined so that for

#ln (a) = c#,

#e^c ~~ 2.718281828^c = a#.

There should be a #ln# button, or option, on your calculator somewhere. Once you find it,

#0.606 xx ln 0.606 + 0.394 xx ln 0.394#

#= (0.606 xx ln 0.606) + (0.394 xx ln 0.394)#

#= [0.606 xx (-0.5009)] + [0.394 xx (-0.9314)]#
