Is there a difference between #d/(dx)[f(x)]# and #(df(x))/(dx)#?

Nope, no functional difference.

#d/(dx)[f(x)]# simply emphasizes that it is the derivative with respect to #x#, and that the function differentiated is #f(x)#.

#(df(x))/(dx)# is a more compact way of saying "the derivative of #f(x)# with respect to #x#", and is more similar to #(dy)/(dx)#, with #y = f(x)#.
