What general guidelines should I follow to ask more about my posted question?

Yes! This is a very open community where many people are willing to assist in fulfilling the goal of being "the definitive learning resource for the world". There's no "barrier of professionalism" or what have you when it comes to the questioner and answerer having a further clarifying discussion about the question or answer.
I guess the only things I'd say as general guidelines are:
- Don't be afraid to ask something specific at the risk of your sounding dumb. We've all been there at some point.
- Comment relevantly to the question/answer.
- Be courteous/polite/civil/etc.
- Try to make your comments readable (sufficient grammar, and be as clear as you can when asking something potentially confusing).
