It depends on what you mean.

For ideal gases...

  • Completely elastic collisions with each other and with container
  • No interaction with each other
  • Compressibility factor is 1
  • Takes on shape of container

For real gases...

  • Inelastic collisions with each other and with container
  • Some interaction with each other ("stickiness")
  • Compressibility factor deviates away from 1 in either direction, depending on whether the gas is easier to compress or expand
  • Takes on shape of container
